The Deeper Side Of Bass.
Hi, welcome to the Deeper Side of Bass. This page will focus on the deeper side of electronic bass music, covering the following genres:

  • Deep Minimal Drum & Bass
  • IDM
  • Ambient
  • Down tempo

Before diving into the genres to pinpoint the unknown talent, it’s best to start off with a little background information about me Asanyeh. Well where do start???? How far back shall I go??? Thinking about it, I’ve been doing music in one way or another since the age of 8 years old. Fast forwarding to May 1998, when taking my 1st steps into a Drum & Bass Rave, One Nation at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre. 1st thoughts after getting past the security was OMG I can’t believe I just got in, 2nd thoughts was quick run to the arena before security notice I was to young, as I was only 15 years old looking like a 10 year old might I add.
After pushing through the skanking cru, I looked at the stage Micky Finn & Darren Jay was gracing the decks with some now old skool jump up and classic old skool jungle rhythms, with Stevie Hyper D and Skibadee doing MC duties. After this the journey into music production/DJ started. The following week I took my paper round wages of £16.50 to Birmingham’s number one record store for Drum & Bass at the time “Basement Beats”, which was located in the basement of Don Christies Record shop in the market area of the city and purchased Bambaata/Funksta – Shy FX. After years of mixing and producing Drum & Bass I was not happy with the way the finish product sounded. With that in mind a conscious decision was made to go back into education at the age of 23, education was the only way to overcome the problems being faced with in relation to the tracks being produced.
So now in 2011, I’m writing this blog with a BSc Degree in E-Music, Co-owner of RAWganics Record label, Forthcoming signings on Dubkraft Records and Rotation Deep also 2 weekly radio shows under my belt (as they say) is a sign of good things to come from Asanyeh.
As mentioned earlier, this blog page will be taking a look at what’s good within electronic music’s sub genres Deep Minimal Drum & Bass, IDM, Ambient and Down Tempo. I will be reviewing artists from the chosen genres, yes I will be writing reviews on some of the well known artists from time to time but more time I will be focusing my attention to those of you who are talented and are not really recognized by that main stream commercialized mess. My job is to locate artists of the unknown and give them a little exposure.
So… Deep bass music for 2011, Hmm where to start as there is so many tunes to choose from. Well the only way to start is from the beginning of the year, which saw the anticipated release of Exit Records Presents: Mosaic, Vol 1. Featuring tracks from ASC, Loxy & Resound, Stray, Genotype, Commix & Skeptical to name a few, brought 2011 in with a bang. Containing 22 well-crafted pieces of music, which takes the listener on a journey, through the experimental depths Drum & Bass has to offer.
To be honest after getting this LP I had to put my all into my Dissertation which meant I did not really pay any attention to any new music through out the months of February and early march, until I downloaded a podcast from ASC. Upon reaching the last mix of the podcast something happened, some broken percussion sounds where slowly ascending into the mix, followed by some deep atmospheric pads complimented with some glitch sound FX’s and dubby piano sounds, I stopped typing away at my dissertation and waited for the drop, then boom the deep dubby bass line came through. Some serious head banging was going on for the full 2 minutes of the track; I was so upset with ASC for not playing the full track. This lead me to actually read the track list to find out what the last track in the mix was. The track was called “Sunrise” from a dude in Romania called Archer. After checking out his Sound Cloud http://soundcloud.com/_archer_ I saw the track in front of my eyes and was a free download at the time with some other tracks form some other producers I never knew about. The track Sunrise went straight on my IPod and was on loop for about a week.
This track made me want more, so I stated to investigate this Dubkraft / False Flag Operation record labels which the track was signed to. Upon visiting the website http://dubkraftrecords.com/ a small grin emerged when going through the artist roster and back catalogue. When doing this, 2 producers stood out against the amazing talent Dubkraft/False Flag have to offer they are:

  • Dominic Ridgway: http://soundcloud.com/dominic-ridgway this guy is one of those producers who always provides. His sound is that of a deep atmospheric kind, earth moving bass lines along with the use of soulful vocals dose justice to his productions, his distinctive take on Drum & Bass is unique to the genre. With releases already on Dubkraft, Absys, Mjazz, Something Deep to name a few. Dominic Ridgway one to watch in 2012 I can smell an album on the horizon so watch out.

  • Edoc: http://soundcloud.com/edoc One of Spain’s best producers as far as I’m concerned. Edoc’s productions are a fusion of Drum & Bass, Down Tempo & IDM. His electronic soundscape is huge. He is never afraid to experiment and it show’s in the music he creates. The offbeat grooves and industrial sounds always seam to amaze me when listening to an Edoc track. The muffled vocals he creates are out of this world. The glitch and dubby vibes Edoc provides takes you on an experimental journey to the deepest of the deep. 1 for the IPod for sure.

These two producer are only a small fraction of what Dubkraft Records/False Flag Operation have to offer for full listings check out the Dubkraft Records Website. Label Boss Silviu Costinescu aka Alien Pimp strives to take the weird and wonderful sounds producers are creating and push them through so that they can be heard by you.
For those of you who follow Deep Minimal Drum & Bass will have heard of Blue Motion, http://soundcloud.com/bluemotionfree + http://soundcloud.com/bluemotion Dirty B from Slovakia and Eros from Belgium join forces in 2009 under the name Blue Motion. Since then they have produced some countless amounts of deep soulful music that has left a massive imprint on the sub genre. It’s only natural they get some acknowledgement for their works as it always seams to grasp the emotions of many people. I highly recommend you check out the pages provided if you have not done so already.
As a radio DJ, I’m always on the look out for new music from the unknown producer, while doing this I stumbled across a dude who produces music under the name Hijaq http://soundcloud.com/hijaq coming out of Russia, Hijaq produces Deep minimal Drum & Bass, IDM, experimental, deep, micro sounds that capture the essence of music, can surely pass in the electronic genre as a whole. Hijaq run his own record label Something Deep Records https://www.facebook.com/pages/Something-Deep-rec/177505168955962. A place he can truly be creative with no limitations. With releases already on Extent VIP and Deep Revelations and his long awaited debut album on his Something Deep label, Hijaq is set to make his mark in 2012.
Moving west, to a small coastal town in France, a producer known as, Psyko Konceptor will be found http://soundcloud.com/psyko-konceptor. His take on Drum & Bass consists of a deep emotional feel. He has a way of capturing the essence within his productions that can touches the depths of the deep. Tracks like Compassion, Cosmic Scale and Love Is gone have left an imprint in the scene. Psyko Konseptor has releases on Rotation Deep, Off World, and Urban Chemistry. Psyko Konceptor is 1 to watch in 2012.
The end of 2011 has seen some top releases from the like of Loxy & Resound with their debut LP Burning Shadows on D-Bridge’s Exit Records which feature some of the big tunes of 2011, Consequence’s 2nd LP Test Dreams also on Exit Records makes your mind drift away as you listen.
It has been a massive year for music in 2011, as more producers are stating to emerge using portals such as Sound Cloud to promote their music. There are hundreds of tracks for me to be reviewing over the coming months, so stay tuned……………..And Finally,
Here is a mix I did featuring some of the tracks that got me through 2011, enjoy the deepness.
